AKW Volunteer at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter

- Written by Laura

Several members of the AKW team took a trip out to the rolling Malvern Hills in August 2024, where they spent two days volunteering at Worcestershire Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS), who have given shelter, medical treatment and care to abandoned, unwanted or mistreated animals, and rehomed cats, dogs and ex-battery hens since 1983.

As part of the Helping Hands Volunteering Scheme that was established in 2022, AKW colleagues are encouraged to support charities and good causes as part of their employment, with 300 paid days per year available to help us make life better for people in our local communities.

Across two days, AKW’s Laura, Mandy, Josh, Karen, Elizabeth, Samantha, Nina and Lauren helped the WARS team with the building of their memorial garden which will be used to walk the resident dogs in their care once finished.

The volunteers also assisted the centre staff with taking care of the animals by walking, feeding and cleaning out kennels, and of course, they got ample time to play with their new furry friends too!

The AKW team had a brilliant time at WARS and absolutely loved spending time with the animals the centre provides invaluable care for.

To further support WARS, we’re thrilled to announce that AKW will be sponsoring the WARS 2025 calendar, the profits for which will enable them to look after animals in need.
