AKW’s Intrepid Explorer Trekking for Heroes

- Written by Ash Bath

Ever thought of trekking over a marathon distance? How about two? On consecutive days. And then, to spice things up even more, add in a few mountains, ice fields, hot springs and rivers. Now that’s what we call a challenge – an Iceland Challenge.

AKW’s Customer Services Director, Paul Tingey, has been training for this trek for several months and for which he is aiming to raise over £1500 for Help for Heroes. Paul, who so far has completed 10k mud runs and the London2Brighton 100k Challenge, has set his sights on the Iceland to face his biggest challenge yet .

On 23rd and 24th July 2016 – Paul will make up a group of 200 intrepid trekkers who will be completing the 2-day 52 mile trek through stunning landscape along the famous Laugavegurinn Trail in southern Iceland. Despite undergoing foot surgery during his training Paul’s training remains on target to achieve his target fitness in order to complete the trek which will also test his stamina and adaptability.

If completing one testing marathon distance wasn’t enough of a challenge in order to be ready to face another 26 miles the following day, one would hope for a good night sleep, yes? No! This trek has an added extra dimension of camping in tents under the midnight sun as it will be the height of summer in Iceland at that time.

2 marathons, 2 days, 1 amazing adventure and 1 very intrepid explorer.

We wish Paul every success in this trek and we are very proud that he is fundraising for a charity that is very close to the hearts of everyone here at AKW.
