Decreasing Our Carbon Footprint

Reducing Scope 1, 2 & 3 Emissions

Our aim is to promote environmental stewardship, drive sustainable practices, and contribute to the long-term health of the planet. In order to do this, we are currently monitoring and reducing our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions to decrease the company’s environmental footprint.

Scope 1 emissions are those produced by the business directly, often resulting from combustion, the running of vehicles, and the processing of equipment.

Our current focus within this area involves working with our logistics providers to reduce the emissions generated from vehicles delivering our product, more information on which can be found below.

Scope 2 emissions are those produced indirectly by the business but are sourced elsewhere, these include emissions generated by our consumption of electricity, gas and water.

We have successfully reduced emissions generated from our consumption of gas by 13.76% since 2021, and have invested in renewable electricity which now powers our Droitwich Spa offices, with solar panels also installed at our Middlewich office.

Scope 3 emissions, like Scope 2, are emission produced indirectly by the business through their supply chain, the main example of this being emissions created by the disposal of waste by the company, after being purchased from a supplier.

We have and are increasing our use of recyclable material across our product range to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill following the sale of our products, with 4.76 tonnes of single-use plastic saved by removing this from packaging for a number of our products.

Sustainable Transport

AKW transport providers XPO Logistics are committed to measuring and reducing their carbon impact, with a number of AKW deliveries now made via all-electric vehicles, for which we receive quarterly reports from XPO.

So far in Q1 2024, 1,410 parcels were delivered via all-electric vehicles – 17.9% of our total parcels – which saved 389kg of CO2.
