As manufacturers in the bathroom industry, AKW have a responsibility to monitor water usage and reduce water consumption, and have therefore taken steps to promote this with our colleagues and customers.
We successfully launched our Water & Energy Saving Guide, produced 5-minute shower timers which we have given away free to thousands of customers, and we’ve introduced a range of water-saving products – with even more in development.
We’re highly invested in the development of bathroom products that promote water saving to enable customers who are environmentally conscious or looking to reduce utility bills to make more informed decisions. There are several AKW products that promote water saving:
AKW Bidet Collection – Bidets are more environmentally friendly than traditional WCs as they do not rely on the use of toilet paper which itself uses a lot of water to produce.
AKW Navlin, Doc M & Livenza Plus Sanitaryware – These sanitaryware ranges offer both full and reduced flush options with our push button and lever flush mechanisms, providing people with the option to conserve water with each flush.
AKW Electric Showers – Electric showers are known to use less water than mixer showers, and also use less energy as the heater unit only heats up the water needed for the shower itself.
AKW SmartCare and iTherm showers also feature an optional eco setting which limits the flow to 6 litres per minute to further promote the conversation of water.
AKW On/Off Shower Head – Designed for use with mixer showers and to improve carer-assisted showering, this shower head vastly reduces the water flow mid-shower, to enable carers to assist the resident or loved one, without wasting as much water – and without them getting as wet!
Flow Limited Mixer Showers – AKW Arka and Vettora Mixer Showers are now available with fitted flow limiting valves which reduces the water flow to 6/8 litres per minute to help promote water saving.
More water-saving products are currently in development.
At the end of 2022, AKW launched a Water Saving Challenge which encouraged people to use our free 5-minute shower timers to help reduce the time they spend in the shower – with the average 10-minute shower using up to 150 litres of water.
For all those keen on taking part, we offered a £100 supermarket gift card as a prize for a lucky winner who shared their shower timer experience on social media, which resulted in one very happy Occupational Therapist.

In 2022, AKW released a Water & Energy Cost Saving Guide which includes interesting statistics on water and energy usage in the average home, as well as a number of tips on how to save both environmentally and financially over time.
The guide aims to educate households, landlords, housing associations and specifiers about which household activities and appliances often cause the largest amount of water and energy wastage, to show how small changes in our daily usage can lead to bigger, positive effects on the planet and our utility bills.
