In June 2025, AKW’s Tom and Sue volunteered to spend their working day supporting the staff at Tudor Grange Academy in Worcester with their school careers event.
Sue spent her morning interviewing high school students in an effort to prepare them for job interviews upon leaving school, whilst Tom manned the popular AKW stand at their careers fayre, answering questions about our organisation, future career prospects, and what they can expect in the world of work.
Both volunteers then took part in a careers speed dating activity in the afternoon, which involved students asking them a variety of questions to try and guess what exactly they do at AKW.
Thanks to all the staff members and students at Tudor Grange Academy for making us feel so welcome!
AKW’s Lucy and Charlotte attended the Westacre Middle School Careers Day in Droitwich Spa in February 2025, with the school aiming to provide year 6 children with information about the world of work and raise their aspirations for future employment prospects.
Lucy and Charlotte delivered six sessions to groups of 10–11-year-olds, which included a presentation about their respective roles at the company and the many career opportunities within Human Resources. They also led recruitment-related activities which were designed to engage the children with their new-found knowledge.
Both Lucy and Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed their time spent at Westacre with the children and were thrilled by the enthusiasm shown by the class.
In 2022, volunteers from Marketing and Commercial Finance took part in a maths careers fair organised by staff from six Severn Academies Educational Trust primary schools in the Wyre Forest area.
360 students from across years 5/6 attended to learn about how maths plays a pivotal role in many different careers, with support shown by volunteers from several regional businesses.
Laura and Richard explained how maths is a key element of their roles, and engaged the children with an activity that required them to identify and extract data using a pie chart depicting an example marketing budget. The task challenged the children’s mental arithmetic but was well-received by all involved and proved how essential maths will be in their futures.
AKW are very welcoming of students looking to undertake school work experience or university placements, and have assigned a number of students to departments across the business from Customer Services to Production, where they can be taught valuable new skills and provided with insight to build upon in their future careers.
In 2023, DLP hosted local high school students Emilia and Zak, who got hands-on experience manufacturing shower doors and kitchen cupboards, were guided through the process by industry experts in the Production team.
Scott Findlay, Production Director said: “We couldn’t have asked for two better students. Well done all! A fantastic effort!”
