Time for a Cuppa: AKW Hold Spring Bake Off for Dementia UK

Each May, people across the country take part in ‘Time for a Cuppa’, an annual tea party which encourages us to make time for a cup of tea and a slice of cake, while fundraising for Dementia UK.

At AKW, dementia is incredibly important to us, with many of our accessible bathroom and kitchen products designed to make life better for people living with the condition, which is why we regularly fundraise for Dementia UK, to help more families affected receive the life-changing support they need.

‘Time for a Cuppa Week’ officially took place between Wednesday 1^st-8^th May, but as the charity advise, you can hold your event anytime, so on Wednesday 22^nd May, AKW held a spring Bake Off challenge, with team members invited to secretly enter their best bakes for judgement by colleagues who were asked to donate to sample.

As we expected, the standard of baking was exceptionally high, and all the indulgent entries were devoured within just two hours! Everyone tasting was asked to vote for their favourites in two categories: ‘Best Tasting’ and ‘Best Looking’, with prizes awarded to the winners and runners up.

The scores were very, very close, but in the ‘Best Tasting’ category, Customer Service Advisor Dayna Muller reigned supreme with her Triple Chocolate Kinder Brownies, with Kitchen Designer & Administrator Ian Hill coming in second place with his Bailey’s Cheesecake.

In the ‘Best Looking’ category, Customer Services Advisor Lizzie Taylor took home first prize for her Chocolate & Lotus Biscoff Biscuit Flapjacks, with Senior Credit Controller Sharon Oldfield named runner-up with her Summer Berry Cheesecake.

A big thanks to all our brilliant bakers and eager tasters who raised £174 in aid of Dementia UK, money that will go towards supporting people affected by the condition – of which there are over 944,000 in the UK alone.
